The Organic Cotton Project

Kachchh is a major producer of organic cotton.  KHAMIR wants to use this local resource as an opportunity to develop a market niche. KHAMIR is looking for partners interested in producing handspun, hand woven textiles from locally grown organic cotton.  Using a rationale similar to India’s handspun khadi fabrics, this is an opportunity to strengthen the local economy at all levels of the supply chain.

In Kachchh, the supply chain from farmers to spinners to dyers to weavers already exists.  KHAMIR is interested in developing a cohesive plan to strengthen linkages and develop management and market positioning capacities.  We are looking for partners interesting in supporting and funding this concept.

Sponsor a Weaver and Loom

KHAMIR’s Weavers’ Studio is now offering an exciting opportunity to sponsor a weaver and a loom at KHAMIR Craft Resource Centre’s campus.  During a three month sponsorship, a Kachchh artisan will develop customized products such as shawls, stoles, fabrics, curtains, rugs, bed linens, and table linens to meet your needs.  Kachchh is known for its intricate woven motifs in wool, silk, and cotton.  This sponsorship opportunity gives you the opportunity to engage with the rich skills of Kachchh artisans and to explore woven possibilities. 

KHAMIR will manage your needs to ensure that production matches your individual requirements.  Design assistance and custom dyeing can also be provided in-house.  KHAMIR is also able to facilitate blending woven textiles with other regional crafts such as bandhani tie and tie, block printing, and embroidery.  KHAMIR will customize contracts and fix sponsorship costs to reflect the number of products that will be developed during your sponsorship.
