Metal Bells
KHAMIR’s approach has been to maintain fair price so that a monopoly of being dependent on one buyer does not put the artisan at risk. KHAMIR is addressing methods for better metallurgy and finishes for the bells in order to increase perceived value. New products are being developed with artisans who do not possess all the skills for bell making and creating the sonorous sound quality which is the bell’s USP.
Safety kits that safeguard the artisan in the workspace while grinding, welding and firing have been introduced, while making the furnaces more energy efficient, safe and production-friendly is on the agenda.

KHAMIR conducted a workshop in copper metal bell crafts for the new surface finishes on Kutch bells and skill development of artisans who are involved in this craft from a long time. Since 6 years KHAMIR is working with this craft and due to long engagement, issue of safety at work space was addressed for the betterment of the Health & Safety. So safety kit was designed to protect the artisans from hazardous effect of activities such as grinding, welding, firing. This workshop aimed at two distinct requirements of the artisans.
This workshop ensured that the artisans were comfortable with kit that includes safety furnace glass, welding and grinding glass, different types of mask like mask that gives maximum protection against chemical effluents and a mask with nozzle that can be worn by artisan when working near the |
| furnace. In addition to this kit includes a high quality leather gloves that ensures protection against heat and is a good resistant to fire. | |
